Last chance

After a few difficult years of economic uncertainty, I am undecided about continuing shoemaking. I'm not saying that this is a decisive end, but rather a break in order to refocus my efforts on the profitability of my business. Shoe manufacturing involves its share of financial pressure and technical challenges: heavy inventory of components to offer all sizes, very long and expensive development of new models, manufacturing without industrial machinery involves around a hundred steps and requires strength and physical endurance….

After several conversations with my community of artisans, I definitely believe that this disapearing and mainly male profession deserves to survive, the know-how must be saved and transmitted…. but at what price? The price of a handmade object has financial value, but also emotional value. Each artisan puts a great deal of passion into their work which is often the source of accomplishment, much more than financial profits. When unprofitability catches up with us, when illness affects us and we have no safety net, when entrepreneurial pressure weighs us down, it is time to face reality and refocus.

In this apocalyptic climate, it is better to step back and breathe than to continue to rush forward at full speed with passion without knowing where we are going.

A break is necessary. Hence the last chance sale. Because I don't know how long this break will last. I will probably do one last production of sandals in the spring. But the time has come to step back, look at the work accomplished, evaluate my place in the market and have hope of coming back with a plan that respects my values, my rhythm and better stability.

The presale is available until March 1st. Some colours are in limited quantities. Delivery of this production is scheduled for the end of April. I will make a maximum of 20 pairs without exception to allow me to finish on time.
